I first learned of the Far-InfraRed sauna from my holistic-oriented MD while I was undergoing chelation therapy for heavy metal toxicity. In my case, it was recommended the sauna be used in conjunction with chelation. (For some patients who are unable to tolerate chelation, or simply prefer not to receive it, the sauna is used on its own as an alternative to chelation.) I was impressed with the extensive evidence supporting the use of saunas for detoxification and the effectiveness of Far-InfraRed saunas in the treatment of numerous conditions including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. I was also impressed that the Far-InfraRed saunas are used by a variety of medical practitioners including allopathic doctors (MDs), naturopaths, physiotherapists and massage therapists. Holistic dentists have also recommended Far-InfraRed saunas, as a follow up to amalgam removal. Unfortunately, the sauna I used at my MD's clinic was a 2-hour drive from my home. Many of the local health care practitioners, in my home city of Victoria, BC, wished to refer their patients somewhere to use a Far-InfraRed sauna. In order to fulfill my own treatment requirements and those of others I founded the Nature's Spectrum Far-InfraRed Sauna Center in June 2000. It was the first facility of its kind in Victoria. I have been regularly using the sauna over the past three years. For the past 18 months I have followed a particularly intensive routine of 8-10 hours per week. The studies I have reviewed regarding sweat detoxification therapy have all recommended frequent use of the sauna for at least 20-40 sessions and often more. (Some cultures use the saunas on a daily basis for their entire lives to continuously enjoy its health promoting effects.) Pre-sauna exercise and several detoxifying nutritional supplements have also been part of my program. I attribute vast improvements in my health to the use of the sauna and am happy to share this information with any interested individuals. Nature's Spectrum has grown on a foundation of knowledge.
